Compliant Asbestos Testing & Sampling Services
If you suspect asbestos may be present in your domestic or commercial premises, one of the first steps to determining your risk is through asbestos testing. A vital part of your overall asbestos management, asbestos sampling and then testing, is one of the early stages of investigations.
As asbestos professionals, we extract samples from the suspected area safely, compliantly and using specialist equipment according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines. Depending on the areas and materials asbestos is suspected to be present in, more samples may be required from each area to fully determine their condition and risk.
At Pillars Environmental, we are expert asbestos consultants who have decades of experience working across various asbestos surveying projects. We undertake three types of asbestos surveys (all of which include asbestos testing), such as: Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys (R&D), Asbestos Management Surveys (AMS) and Asbestos Re-Inspections.

Asbestos Sampling
While many may be tempted to sample the suspected asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) themselves with an asbestos testing kit, we would always recommend that a competent and trained asbestos professional is enlisted to carry out the sampling process safely and therefore minimise asbestos exposure.
Before the extraction process, our trained operatives will have reviewed any existing documentation relating to asbestos presence within your commercial or domestic premises. A thorough assessment of the site will be undertaken before samples of the ACMs are extracted using specialist techniques and equipment. This is done to reduce the risk of asbestos fibres being released into the environment which could potentially be harmful.
Once all the sufficient samples have been extracted from the ACMs, they are then packaged, sealed and labelled securely before being transported for asbestos testing.
‘Sampling asbestos materials should be carried out by a suitably trained person. If in doubt, use a competent surveyor. To analyse a sample you must use trained and competent analysts who must be accredited.’
Asbestos Testing Services
According to the HSE, ‘to analyse a sample you must use trained and competent analysts who must be accredited’. At Pillars Environmental, we only use the most trusted and reliable UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited laboratories for the analysis and testing of your asbestos samples.
When the lab receives your samples, the suspected ACMs will be expertly analysed to determine:
-
- whether asbestos is indeed present
- the type of asbestos present (common types include chrysotile, amosite and crocidolite)
Depending on the results from the laboratory tests, we can then inform you on the most appropriate course of action for your property, whether that be asbestos remediation, removal, re-inspections or other.

Asbestos Testing Services FAQs
Which materials are commonly tested for asbestos?
The Health and Safety Executive writes that common places for asbestos to be found include:
-
- asbestos lagging, used as thermal insulation on pipes and boilers
- sprayed asbestos used for thermal insulation, fire protection, partitioning and ducts
- asbestos-insulating board (AIB) used for fire protection, thermal insulation, partitioning and ducts
- some ceiling tiles
- floor tiles
- cement roofing and guttering (like garage roofs and outhouses)
- textured coatings
How long will asbestos testing take?
Depending on the areas where asbestos is suspected, the size and scale of said areas and so on, it is challenging to give a simple answer. This will also depend on the type of survey chosen (if any). Results times can also vary depending on the level of investigation needed by the UKAS laboratory. Get in touch with us today for a free quote.
