Domestic Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Survey
Formally known within the construction industry as a Type 3 asbestos survey, Refurbishment and Demolition (R&D) surveys are used when works are going to be taken out on a domestic property. These works could either include a refurbishment or a full demolition of the premises, but in both instances, there is an increased risk of released asbestos fibres into the environment. The popularity of asbestos as a building material means that many domestic properties like houses which were constructed before 1999 are likely to contain ACMs. Because of this, the identification and management of these ACMs is crucial for your domestic property.
During domestic Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys, our asbestos consultants would undertake intrusive and visual inspections of the suspected ACM. If samples are taken at this time, they would then be sent to a UKAS accredited laboratory for further testing. Domestic R&D surveys necessitate full access to the property, meaning that the premises must be evacuated before the survey’s commencement due to the intrusive nature of testing. If complete access cannot be granted within the domestic property, we would assume that asbestos is present in that area.

Domestic Asbestos Management Survey
Comparatively, a Domestic Asbestos Management Survey (which is formally known as a Type 2 asbestos survey) is a less intrusive option than the R&D survey. Due to its less intrusive nature, Asbestos Management Surveys (AMS) are able to be conducted during normal domestic occupancy. During this type of survey, our team will take discrete samples from the suspected ACMs, along with in-depth visual inspections. No damage is made to the domestic property during an AMS because of these less invasive techniques, leaving your property looking exactly the same as before the survey took place. This is why it is a suitable choice for your home and other private premises.
