Efficient Asbestos Services for the Hospitality Sector
Ranging from independent cafes to large restaurant chains across the country, there’s an increased chance of asbestos risk if your establishment is part of a building which was built before 2000. As defined as a non-domestic premises which is frequented by the public, the Dutyholder of the building where the restaurant is situated is required to have asbestos surveys carried out within their building as to protect staff and customers alike.
It is essential that you have the correct asbestos survey carried out for your restaurant to fully determine your asbestos risk.If the Dutyholder fails to uphold their responsibility in managing any potential asbestos compliantly, then hefty fines or even imprisonment could be enacted as a result of said misconduct.
At Pillars Environmental, we are licensed asbestos consultants who have years of experience working across both the commercial and domestic aspects of asbestos inspection. We can undertake three types of asbestos surveys for restaurants, including: Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys (R&D), Asbestos Management Surveys (AMS) and Asbestos Re-Inspections.

Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys For Restaurants
Previously called Type 3 asbestos surveys, Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys are required when more significant works are due to take place within your restaurant building, and any ACMs present are likely to be broken or disturbed. Also referred to as an R&D survey, this could relate to a full or partial refurbishment or demolition of your hospitality establishment.
Compared with Asbestos Management Surveys, R&D surveys are a more invasive method of examining the asbestos-containing materials within the restaurant building. Should this be the chosen asbestos survey, it’s key that the premises be vacated whilst the survey is being conducted. Our competent asbestos surveyors will take samples of any suspected ACMs in your establishment according to the guidance set out by the HSG264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide. We will then send the suspected ACMs on to a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited lab for compliant asbestos testing. From here, it will then be determined whether the asbestos samples extracted from your premises are asbestos-containing.
"The duty to manage covers all non-domestic premises. Such premises include all industrial, commercial or public buildings such as factories, warehouses, education, shops, hospitals and schools."
Asbestos Management Surveys For Restaurants
Asbestos Management Surveys for restaurants employ less invasive methods when determining whether asbestos is a threat to those who work in or visit your restaurant. Formally known as a Type 2 asbestos survey, an AMS could be a better option within the restaurant environment – especially if the survey needs to be carried out in a discreet fashion.
Though the asbestos sampling methods can vary, the methods of processing remain the same. At Pillars Environmental, we only work with the most reliable UKAS-accredited labs to both process and inspect the samples extracted from your establishment. Our licensed asbestos contractors can then help you to manage any ACMs through an Asbestos Management Plan or other asbestos removal management services.

Restaurant Asbestos Re-Inspection Surveys
Our team can also provide an asbestos re-inspection service if the asbestos-containing materials in your restaurant need frequent checks. If the ACMs have remained in good condition, we may recommend they remain in situ, but are inspected regularly by an asbestos re-inspection service provider like ourselves. By doing this, we are ensuring the ACMs are in keeping with important health and safety legislation surrounding asbestos, and for your own peace of mind.
Asbestos re-inspections are often advised as a course of action in an Asbestos Management Plan, if the ACMs are left in situ. The management plan will explain how to most appropriately deal with them within your restaurant, and include re-inspection surveys to ensure the conditions of ACMs have not deteriorated since last reviewed.
