According to the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012), both of these asbestos surveys are legally required under certain circumstances. For instance, they are usually required if a building was constructed before the year 2000, or a building is due to undergo refurbishment, demolition or significant maintenance works.

What Does an Asbestos Survey Involve?
Whereas, an Asbestos Management Survey (formerly referred to as a Type 2 Asbestos Survey) involves a more modest approach, such as removing ceiling tiles or accessing dry risers for example.

How Much Does an Asbestos Survey Cost?
No two buildings are the same which means no two projects we work on are the same. Hence, asbestos survey cost can vary significantly, depending on the individual requirements of your project, including:
- The size of the property: Costs will vary depending on whether the property is a house or flat, but also depending on how many bedrooms it has, square footage, etc.
- The complexity of the project: If the area that requires surveying is difficult to reach/access, this may extend the project’s preparation time and mean we need specialist equipment which both increase the final price.
- Estimated number of samples: The more samples we estimate will need to be taken, the higher the asbestos survey quote will be.
- Location in relation to our offices: If your property is considerably far from our offices, part of the costs you pay to Pillars Environmental asbestos consultants will be used to cover the costs of travel.
Asbestos survey cost is often determined by considering what’s included in the survey. For instance, even if the buildings are of similar sizes, an asbestos management survey will typically cost less than a refurbishment and demolition survey – due to the less invasive sampling methods involved.
